FUNKY LABELS & FUNKY BOTTLES FINE WINE DINNER - Thursday 30th September 2010
The design of a wine label or bottle can have a huge impact on the success of a wine new to market. The label or bottle is the single biggest influence in most wine buyers’ decisions and even overrides the quality of the wine itself. Of course a poor quality wine soon gets found out no matter how funky the label or bottle, and in a great many cases it is fair to say that the design is simply there to make the wine stand out as the “best of a bad lot”.
However, there are some very serious wines hiding behind funky labels and in funny shaped bottles, and our dinner this evening is dedicated to a selection of wines from around the world (Australia, California, Italy and even France) that have either unusual labels or bottles. It will provide us with the opportunity to prove that the saying “never judge a book by its cover” can apply equally well to the world of wine.
ITALIAN FINE WINE DINNER - Thursday 28th October 2010
Italy’s winemaking history goes back some 4000 years, and the country produces some of the greatest wines in the world. Considering the diversity of its terroir, it has extraordinary and exceptional potential to produce even more, but if Italy suffers from anything it is “identity” because wine is produced across the length and breadth of the country and inevitably styles tend to overlap, where as in France, for example, production is confined to around half a dozen major regions each with its own very recognizable style and reputation. Tonight we shall be trying wines from Northern to Southern Italy and the Islands, and endeavouring to show just how great Italian wines can be irrespective of where in the country they are produced.
CHRISTMAS PRESTIGE UNITED STATES WEST COAST FINE WINE DINNER - Thursday 2nd December 2010
California's best wines are produced in areas cooled by the sea, bay winds and the great coastal fog bank. However it isn't only California that produces fine wines, and the States further north such as Oregon have areas ideally situated for high quality wine production. The wines for our Christmas Prestige evening will cover a number of regions along the West Coast ranging from the Southern end of Central Coast region, up to the Pacific North West in Oregon. The intention is to show how the West Coast's greatest wines can now stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their equivalents from the classic regions of France.
In each case Keith Marshall will serve a superb five course dinner, and there will be six accompanying wines.
The prices are: The Funky Labels & Funky Bottles Fine Wine Dinner - £70.00 per head, the Italian Fine Wine Dinner - £70.00 per head and the Christmas Prestige United States West Coast Fine Wine Dinner - £85.00 per head. All promise to be very special events with some very special wines, but we strongly recommend The Dew Pond to all our customers, whatever the occasion.

Personal Wine Tastings
Personal wine tastings can be arranged for many occasions such as casual tastings with friends and family, birthdays, anniversaries, dinner parties, etc. We would suggest a period of 1½ to 2 hours but can extend to any duration to suit your requirements. Within this period we would recommend tasting around 9 different wines. These tastings are interactive, informal, highly enjoyable, and definitely not lectures. They offer you the experience to sample wines from all around the world, and take part in some light-hearted competition, and learn about wine in a sociable way. We will come to your home, or any other venue, and bring everything needed for your tasting. All you have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the occasion.
